An extended adventurous voyage

In fact, an Odyssey. You might want to join the conversational voyage taking place here. Chris and Alan on leading while "out of control".

We often live in a church culture that echos children on a long trip – "Are we there yet?" We want to arrive – "is this not yet the Promised Land, flowing freely with milk and honey." Where is the joy in the journey? Where is the trust in the One who leads us?

Bono sings "I still haven’t found what I’m looking for." Of course not! It isn’t here. Our joy is found in the journey – whether awestruck at the top of mountains – or in the valley of shadows where those same mountains block the light.

We follow an unpredictable Other – and whilst on this extended adventurous voyage, we are never "there yet!"

NOTE: Alan has been a friend for over two decades, Imbi’s and my Pastor in the ’80s and the first missional leader I served with who knew how to pull the gifting out of the people he works with. (Forgive the prepositional ending of the last sentence.)
