Intellectual Property issues are something I find myself dealing with on a regular basis. People often feel that by purchasing a CD, DVD or an iTunes download – they have unlimited rights usage; "What do you mean I can’t use it anywhere, I paid for it, didn’t I." People fail to realize that what they are actually paying for is a limited license to use these pieces of Intellectual Property for personal use only. In my 20+ years of owning a post-production company in Toronto, we regularly had to explain to clients that no, we would not edit their corporate video or on-air promo to the latest hot tune – unless of course, they wanted to pay the copyright holder for sync rights. (Usually very expensive.)

However, there are many people who are more than willing to share their creative. Check out Yahoo’s Beta of Creative Commons.
