Wikis are one of the ways that the Net is allowing conversations to take place. (Wiki – A website allowing users to add content, as on an Internet forum, but also allows anyone to edit the content.) Wikipedia is in my toolbar (using iSeek) and I use it daily to get all kinds of information.
One of the trends that TrendWatching discusses is what they call "Customer Made". The ability for all of us to comment on products, services, customer support, businesses, Churches, etc. Many of these sites, including about.com & epinions.com are review storage sites -differing reviews provide a level of interactivity. Wikis are more organic than that – they change and grow over time. Allowing a more accurate picture of what’s being described to emerge.
Consumerpedia takes the Wikipedia model and applies it to the conversations amongst consumers:
Consumerpedia is a specialized tool for consumer information sharing, is built from the ground up to try to minimize spamming problems, and has simplified content creation tools that anyone and everyone can easily and quickly use.
It is another Cluetrain example of being back in the marketplace talking with other customers about the wares that are available. The marketplace is now global – as is the conversation.
In one of this blog’s areas of interest, Faith, I can see churchpedia on the horizon. Where people gather together to discuss the different iterations of church – including leadership models, styles and purpose – questioning the impact these iterations are having on their communities and their openness to enter into the conversation. Churches that attempt to "manage" the information flow will think they see a light at the end of the tunnel – but it will just be the Cluetrain coming towards them, preparing to bust open their reality – bringing transparency whether they want it or not.
