Finalcutstudio1_1The exhibit floors of NAB open in a few hours. The excitement of new technology grips the 100,000+ preparing to wander the Las Vegas Convention Center halls. Exhibitors hope to create a buzz about their new offerings – a buzz that will generate profits.

Apple didn’t wait until today to announce their latest offering – Final Cut Studio, announced on Sunday features Final Cut Pro 5, Soundtrack Pro, Motion 2 and DVD Studio Pro 4. (Where’s LiveType in the mix??) FCPP5 finally features Multi-cam with the ability to "simultaneously view and cut from up to 128 sources in real time." Now I would have been happy with the ability to live cut from six to ten sources but the 128 sources should make Lars Von Trier happy.

FCPP5 is now HDV native and there are a lot of other new features including multi-channel audio (finally – thanks to QT7), better network media management across an Xsan and much more. Soundtrack Pro appears to have a lot of Logic added. Motion 2 now features much influence from Particle Illusion and is easily integrated with After Effects. DVD Studio Pro 4 now features HD support.

This looks like a very good upgrade – I will be doing the upgrade from FCP HD to Studio this summer.
