Toronto Miracle

I spent part of the day, yesterday, installing a contraption that would stop boats from going under our dock. To the south of us, a huge storm was raging – and with lightning threatening, Imbi thought it might be appropriate for me to get out of the lake. Wandering up to the cottage, the phone rang – it was friends of ours in Connecticut calling to sort out or visit with them in Boston.

TorontoairfrancecrashCarol’s first comment, though, was to say she was watching CNN’s coverage of the Toronto airport – an Air France flight had gone off the runway in the storm and was in flames. My first question was "were there any survivors?"

We immediately turned the radio on and listened to the coverage. Initial reports suggested there were many survivors. When the smoke cleared it became apparent that a miracle had happened at Lester B. Pearson Airport in Toronto – all the passengers and crew got safely out of the plane. That’s the kind of news that makes your day.

There are a lot of people smiling in Toronto today.

PS: My friend, Brad Bergfalk was landing at Pearson from England at the same time. I’m sure he’ll comment over at Naked Religion.
