GreatgiveawayDavid Fitch’s book, The Great Giveaway: Reclaiming the Mission of the Church from American Business, Parachurch Organizations, Psychotherapy, Consumer Capitalism, And Other Modern Maladies, arrived from Amazon today. I’m devouring it. This is an important book. I feel like I’ve underlined more than half of the first chapter. In this chapter, Fitch questions the numbers oriented, pseudo success model of the modern church – a model that emphasizes “decisions” over actual life changes. Fitch deconstructs the North American church’s love for numbers and efficiency – the delivery of services to the individual – as against the biblical construct of building community in which we grow and change together.

I’ll update this post as I read the book.

UPDATE: Check out David’s blog.
