Pulpit Idol, Anyone

Pulpitmasters

Now this is too funny. TLC is producing a show called Pulpit Masters – think of it as American Idol for the “spiritual set”. They’re looking for the next Bill Hybels, Rick Warren or TD Jakes.

This 10 part, 1 hour weekly television series is setting out to find America’s next great inspirational speaker. Do you have a unique and positive message you wish to share? Do you want to make a difference in the world? Do you feel like you have the will and the skill necessary to inspire others? If so, we’re looking for you to show up, sign in and speak out!

Gee, I wonder if there will be a Canadian version – Pulpit Masters Lite, perhaps. Or a political version, Puppet Masters.

[“Idol” line shamelessly lifted from Darryl Dash – who’d probably be a Pulpit Masters finalist, right Double D.]

  1. It was inevitable. Suitably bizarre. But spiritual motivational speakers are not the same thing as pop-singers. Well, maybe they are. Both are most successful when they appeal to people’s emotions. The difference is that motivational speakers are most successful when they can convey an authenticity that is simple and compelling. And if you listen to many of these people, there really isn’t much that separates them on a conceptual level. So it will be interesting to see who has something distinctive to say. I wonder what they win? A speaker’s bureau contract? An agent? A church? Sufficiently weird isn’t it?

  2. I’m only doing it if Paula Abdul is a judge.

  3. What about the judges, indeed. Who gets to play Simon’s role?
And what kind of product placement will there be. Judges drinking from Purpose Driven mugs? Quickly leafing through Zondervan Bibles to check scripture references.

  5. GREAT CONCEPT!
COUNT ME IN! I WANT TO BE THE FIRST CONTESTANT!
But wait! I ponder……..What if one of the contestants is sleeping with a judge? Is that a problem? Will it affect what they are doing in thier church? Does it really apply if they are involved with “holywood”?

    ummmmm….must rethink this!
