Tomorrow we catch a daytime flight from Heathrow for Nairobi. This will be the first time we’ve done a daytime trip on this route, and both Imbi and I are looking forward to it. You never really sleep on an overnight – and end up feeling terrible the next day, anyway. Although it hasn’t been confirmed, we think we’re spending the weekend with friends at a game farm and then begin guest lecturing on Monday.
Our classes begin at 8:30 and end at 4:30 every weekday for three weeks. We are teaching television script writing to mature students who work with NGOs. This is the first three week block of a nine week program on TV production. The next two blocks are production and post-production. We taught those courses in 2001 and 2002, while returning in 2003 for a two week lecture series with students in the Communications degree program. Although I was in Africa in early 2004, our brief Western sojourn for part of ’04 and ’05 precluded us returning until now.
I look forward to introducing you to our students – and some of the concepts we’ll be teaching. We will probably be without internet access for a few days, however, so this may be one of my last posts for the week.
