WiFi for Imbi, Rylan, Kaili & other Downtown Torontonians

Toronto Hydro Telecom (how’s that for a name – and no, it’s not a water-based communications system) announced free and fast WiFi for people in the downtown core of my fair city. Rylan and Imbi (son and wife) are University of Toronto students and are inside the coverage area. Kaili is at Le College Français and is just on the edge of coverage. Our good friends, Dan and Sue and the new building for Grace Toronto are also within the coverage area.

Long term plans for THTele WiFi will be to blanket the city. For the first six months, the service is free. After that, rates are rumoured to be in the $30 per month range.

This is exciting news for Toronto. If the service lives up to THTele’s hype, Torontonians will have much better mobile access to the Internet than before. And with WiFi enabled phones, we’ll have a lot more interesting ways of staying connected.

So, Imbi, that’s two tech stories in one day. How about that!
