Peter Gabriel – I Grieve

There has been a level of grief just below the surface for me all week. Some of it is the loss of our dear dog, Dundas. Some of it relates to a friend with a dire cancer prognosis. Some of it relates to my mother who is in early stages of Alzheimer’s. Much of it is in relationships wounded and broken by our own natures. I grieve.

Blasting out of iTunes on my PowerBook is Peter Gabriel’s song, I Grieve. It is a powerful song – that deals with grief and the life that carries on. The bridge kills me every time – it is so filled with joy. Tears well up as it plays in the background.

Life carries on
In the people I meet
In everyone thats out on the street
In all the dogs and cats
In the flies and rats
In the rot and the rust
In the ashes and the dust
Life carries on and on and on and on
Life carries on and on and on

Its just the car that we ride in
A home we reside in
The face that we hide in
The way we are tied in
And life carries on and on and on and on
Life carries on and on and on

Did I dream this belief?
Or did I believe this dream?
Now I can find relief
I grieve

UPDATE: Gideon found this abridged performance by Peter Gabriel on YouTube.
