The title is a very bad pun (for which I’m very happy).
I spent yesterday with folk from The Landing, a missional community in Eagle, Idaho. I shot almost three hours of interviews and am looking forward to editing this material. The video will be on the Allelon site and on YouTube when it is finished being edited.
What was most interesting for my were the interviews with the Chair of the Board of Commerce, the Chief of Police and the Mayor. All of these people spoke of the impact The Landing Community Center is having on Eagle with the projects they are doing in the community – including an arts center, a teen center, Family Education classes, One Idaho, the Every Child, Every Promise campaign and much more.
The Landing has been planted by Christians who love their town and want to partner with local organizations, businesses, the government and individuals “to enrich the quality of the physical, mental, spiritual and social life of each individual and family in our community.” This is a community that has spent time getting to know their town, searching out what God would have them do there, and then doing it. These are folks who seem to have understood the words of St. Frank – “preach the gospel always…if necessary, use words.” (St. Francis of Assisi)
I’m off shortly to shoot some b-roll and two more interviews. I may have a edit of The Landing footage up rather soon. Stay tuned.
