ImonkEarlier this year, Michael Spencer’s blog was their:

Michael Spencer is a Southern Baptist-trained preacher and teacher who calls himself post-evangelical. He’s also the opinionated Internet Monk, frequently posting essays, podcasts and rants. He gained blogosphere visibility a couple of years ago when he posted an anti-Joel Osteen missive, decrying the Houston church leader as a minister who avoids mentioning Jesus or the Gospels “because it’s filling the church” with an audience for his motivational messages. Mr. Spencer also dislikes chain Christian bookstores, megachurches and the state of contemporary Christian music. He loves Jesus, Thomas Merton, Shakespeare and baseball.

I could definitely live without Michael’s baseball addiction. But then again, I’m a Canadian who lived in Europe from the time I was 8 ’til 13 – formative years for those prone to sports addictions. (I was spared.)

I consider Michael to be one of the brightest lights in the post-evangelical universe. His creative output is rather phenomenal. I’m sure you are already reading him. If you’re not…

  1. Thanks Bill for the link. I have checked in at Michael’s site a couple of times but will now do so more often. If you don’t mind my asking, where were you in Europe from 8-13?

  2. Greg,
I’m a Canadian Air Force brat. We lived in the north of France for four years and Bavaria for one.
