Ed Brenegar on Kiva & Micro-Finance

Ed does a short, link-filled post on Kiva and the power of micro-financing. Please read it and follow the links.

I’m thinking a lot more about how best to use the moneys we give away. And am afraid that the edifice-complex of most church leaders, will preclude much of those dollars going in that direction. Kiva and the like can and will make better use of those funds.

A television editor, writer & director since 1978. A Christian since 1982. More than a little frustrated with the Church in the West since late in the last millennium.

  1. Bill

Ginger and I made our first loan last year through Kiva. It really is one of the coolest things going.

  2. I’ve been doing the KIVA thing for nearly a year now. Gotten every dime paid back, even some ahead of schedule! Great idea.

have to say that I posted the site and talked about it on a “christian” blog one time and got chewed out for not giving money to christian missionaries who could do so much “more” with it than microfinancing. First I laughed, then I went over to Kiva and donated more $$ there.

    What a rebel eh? πŸ˜‰
